Speyside is home to over half of Scotland’s Malt Whisky distilleries and for many people is the ‘spiritual’ home of whisky making in Scotland. Departing from Glasgow or Edinburgh this tour will show you the glorious countryside of the Cairngorms National Park and include a full day on Speyside visiting some of the most famous distilleries in the world.
Our day on Speyside includes tours of Glenfiddich, famous for its distinctive shaped bottle and The Glenlivet, home of the first licensed distillery in Scotland. There will be plenty of time to experience both the manufacturing process and to sample and enjoy the finished product; a wonderful Speyside dram.
The drive to and from Speyside will allow us to take in some whiskies from the Highland region. On the way north we will stop at Edradour, for may years the smallest distillery in Scotland, and Royal Lochnagar near Balmoral castle. On the way south we will visit Dalwhinnie, the highest distillery in the country, and Glenturret, possibly the oldest.
This tour can be readily modified to include alternative distilleries: perhaps the innovative bottlings of Glanallachie; or Cardhu, Highland home of Johnnie Walker; or maybe Strathisla for the fans of Chivas Regal?
